Kyrgyzstan has a sharp continental climate. It has relatively little rainfall. There are about 247 days of sun per year. The dawns are generally fine and the afternoons are hazy with occasional rain during the summer time, in the mountains. The temperature varies between 16° and 24°C (61-75°F) in July to between -6° and - 4°C (21-24°F) in January in the lowlands. The temperatures range from 8° to 12°C (46-54°F) in July  to between -20° and -14°C (-4-7°F) in January in the highlands. There are heavy snowfalls during winter time.
